The Five Elements way of life

It has been very challenging since I thought on the idea of presenting the humongous possibilities of the ‘Five Elements theory’ within the scope of a blog. What I actually have done is to try and present the basic understanding of this beautiful theory and guide readers to the ways of easy implementations of it in decoding and solving problems of life. I am greatly indebted to the writings of Dr. Devendra Vora, Mr. M.P. Khemka and Smt. Suman Khemka Choudhary.

Well, '90's Indian kids like me(did we grow up actually!) will be familiar with the names of five elements from the very popular tv serial 'Shaktimaan'. I believe a good portion of other readers also know the sanskrit names 'Agni', 'Vayu', 'Prithibi', 'Akaash', 'Jal' representing the 5 elements and whose Chinese counterparts I am going to discuss here namely-
Wood
Fire
Earth
Metal
Water.

But often we are not interested in this millennia old gibberish because we fail to discover the science behind all the miraculous proclamations this theory brings. The problem lies in the misapprehension that these water, earth, fire etc. are actually elements like hydrogen or oxygen. They are not. The theory says that the human body and everything else in the universe are made up of these 5 elements. Well, these are not elements of chemistry but universal characteristics of all the elements. You can categorise everything in the universe from a very large scale to infinitesimal ramifications by these 5 types. Everything is made up of atoms and atoms also display the 5 symptoms within them. And more often than not the same categorisation can be implemented in quantum level of things.

It's observable that while physical entities(like the sun, rocks, metals etc.) in the universe exhibit any particular one or two properties of the elements, organic entities(living things!) disclose that they are a good mixture of all the 5. Confusions will be over when we stop going by the names and practise that WOOD means the windy or moving property of things, FIRE means the heating property and so on and so forth. Hence goes the chart for convenience:
There are 2.4(western philosophy) to 3.3(Indian philosophy) billion brain cells in a developed human brain. These cells are also of 5 elemental types. By controlling actions of particular organs and endocrine glands, these 5 types of cells bestow our physical body and mental state with the same 5 characteristics and through balancing of these properties sustain our living system. The act of balancing is referred by the saints as metabolism and lack of balance as disease. Like if the WATER type of brain cells provide for our bones and EARTH type of brain cells build our fleshy structure- a deficit in Water element in our body will lead to osteoporosis and an excess of Earth element will lead to obesity. Here goes the chart of our physical and mental construction supported by the 5 elements:

The excess or deficit in any element is denoted by the amount of conduction of bio electricity in that particular type of cells in the brain and it evidently produces corresponding symptoms in the body as disease. With age, naturally, prime bio electric activities of brain cells shift from one element towards other creating a generative cycle of energy as follows:
Generative cycle of energy in elements

Age inappropriate deficit or excess or disease can be controlled by feeding proper bio electricity to the controller of the affected element by means of external infusion, according to this controlling cycle of energy:
Controlling cycle of energy in elements

So we can say, to fight obesity i.e. the excess of Earth we can simply feed the Wood. This method of external infusion can be any natural procedure like acupressure, acupuncture, herbal medicine, magnet therapy, colour therapy, audio therapy, yoga, diet or simple motivation.

Simple yet so vast, profound and effective way of restoring physical and mental health can bring out miracles if done rightly. Saints of the past stopped aging by manipulating the elements. Well, we the '90 babies know what 'Shaktimaan' achieved by the mastery of the five elements. Not going that far in my next article I tried to present very simple ways by which one can detect(by visible symptoms) and correct(by diet, colours, motivation etc.) the imbalance of elements in anyone and cater healthy physique and intellect to everybody including him/her-self.

The concept of Yin-Yang revisited in cosmology

Not sure whether fascinating or depressing but wouldn't it be surprising to discover that our seemingly analogous physical and psychological realities are based entirely on a binary framework? Yes, duality it is, embedded in- from the tiniest possible existence of things to the enormousness of this whole universe. Like the pairs, Dynamic-Static, Male-Female, Heat-Chill etc. it's all about the presence of complementary opposite properties in everything which cannot exist without one another. Yin and Yang are the names in Chinese philosophy to represent this dual nature, where Yin represents female, passive, negative principles in nature and Yang represents positive, active, male principles in nature: With the popularity of Martial art movies and animes these two names are well spread among a good portion of readers. Though evident, nothing is absolute about determining Yin or Yang of anything. E.g. if we consider Heat to be Yang, two different degrees of hotness can be ...

Duality and the Mind game

This article is better not to read if you haven't gone through my post regarding Yin and Yang revisited in Cosmology , except you know the things already. Being arrogant, am I? Please pardon me for that, but I believe, my readers are too wise to let my unholy mannerism affect their quest for the subject matter. Now look at the pendulum closely while it swings. No, I do not aim to hypnotize you. But think, would there be any movement if the bob-pin assembly wasn't sent back and forth in the right and left directions through gravity acting upon its inertia? Our mind is that  pendulum. It moves when nature as gravity acts on its inertia i.e. soul. Like the pendulum we cannot but think or make our mind work in Two ways. It is as simple as that, when we feel to drink some water, in the back of our head we calculate what we would feel if we don't drink now. When we want to take a good nap we cannot but calculate the effects of not having one, in the background. Even duri...

Taking control of the Five elements

I strongly recommend going through the  previous post regarding this topic to have the essence of what is going on here. As said earlier, in proper metabolic state the five elemental brain cells in a human body should work in harmony or balance. But due to heredity, food habit and life style more often than not we come under the dominance of one or more elements and the balance is disturbed. To find out which element is predominant in us, there is a chart in the Chinese system: 5 elements chart From the chart we can derive that- Wood type of brain cells provide for mobility in our system by activating our moving muscles. They control the functionality of Liver and Gall bladder and are dominant on Adrenal glands and Thyroid. They are mostly active at the childhood of a person and becomes more active seasonally in the Spring. They primarily produce the emotion of Anger under the psyche of Originality/intuition, a Wood dominant person thus tends to go with the flow, foll...

Taking care of the Solar Plexus

Of the few people who are familiar with the word Solar Plexus, most imagine a yellow luminous ball(Chakra) at the abdomen of our body when they hear it, with some magical connections of it with our body, mind and spirituality. Though they are not wrong, the fact which makes it less believable is the mystic approach of explanation. Ancient Indian medics referred it to the inactive Naval gland at the surface level(So it's also called Nabhi Chakra), but with deeper understanding we can decipher that they were more interested in the cluster of nerve ganglia called Celiac plexus that radiates nerves throughout the abdomen and also supplies to the naval. Placed at the abdomen, this nerve plexus bears ample medical significance to our body which are properly described only in the theories of Ayurveda and Acupressure. A disturb in the solar plexus is described by its shifting in the abdomen and very often leads to painful outcomes which cannot be cured by drugs. Only neural medicin...

Human body in the light of Yin and Yang

One of the best miracles of the universe happens in this earth when a Mobile spermatozoon from a Male, the Tiniest cell, Positive(+) and Yang in nature, enters the Static Female ovum , which is the Largest cell, Negative(-) and Yin in nature. I would request readers earnestly to read the previous post regarding Yin and Yang for a complete comprehension of the discussion here. We often miss out about the concept of Yin an Yang that not only to Amplitude, Quality or Form but it applies equally to Position also. Yin representing the Inner portion of anything and Yang the Outer, they combined constitute the very concept of space. Just like the initial disturbance of Dynamicity(Yang) within the supreme Consciousness(Yin) gave birth to its physical counterpart Vibration and unitedly sustained this space-time matrix or the cosmic egg; the very imbalance created by Positive(+) spermatozoon within Negative(-) ovum generates the potential to germinate further cells and they together susta...
