This article is better not to read if you haven't gone through my post regarding Yin and Yang revisited in Cosmology, except you know the things already. Being arrogant, am I? Please pardon me for that, but I believe, my readers are too wise to let my unholy mannerism affect their quest for the subject matter.
Now look at the pendulum closely while it swings. No, I do not aim to hypnotize you. But think, would there be any movement if the bob-pin assembly wasn't sent back and forth in the right and left directions through gravity acting upon its inertia? Our mind is that pendulum. It moves when nature as gravity acts on its inertia i.e. soul.
Like the pendulum we cannot but think or make our mind work in Two ways. It is as simple as that, when we feel to drink some water, in the back of our head we calculate what we would feel if we don't drink now. When we want to take a good nap we cannot but calculate the effects of not having one, in the background. Even during reflex actions like cycling when our cerebrum is not thinking, It keeps happening in the cerebellum.
When we agree upon this Dual feature of thinking we might discover further that, by an infinite possibility of both conjugation and exfoliation of a single thought, we can procure myriads of knowledge. From simple digits to mathematics, from words to great epics, from self questioning to philosophy and so on. The only sophistication attached to this basic pendulum of mind is a spring of Choice(C) at its base, by which we can choose to either work with or work against the swing.
There seems to be so much variety in actions of this ever dynamic mind but if we be more observant, there are only Five!
There is Anger that supports originality(Wood),
there is Happiness that supports desire(Fire),
there is Agony due to less interactivity that rises consciousness(Earth),
there is Sadness that supports will power and
there is Fear that generates wisdom.
We describe these types as emotions.
Surprisingly in the Tao cosmology(Chinese) while deriving 5 elements from 8 entities the system inclined more towards Indian philosophy. So far up to 8 trigrams there were only Yin and Yang and 8 states of dominance. But when it's converted to the practicality of 5 elements, the phenomenon of no dominance or Balance is given an equal deterministic identity. This phenomenon is expressed by the element Earth(though, energy of earth is considered Yin in TCM) and further promotes the state of 'Sattva'or balance to be fundamental in the universe, hence, in body and mind.
While the pendulum swings between the peaks there is still act of balancing present in it, which can be referred to as dynamic balance between Yin and Yang. But as the feature of balance becomes stronger the swing becomes shorter and comes to a halt eventually. This depicts the obvious fact that ultimate balance means stasis. Now if we consider the Left swing as Yin or Tama and Right swing as Yang or Raja we can derive that balance or Sattva is the prime need to omit dynamicity of our mind and achieve spirituality.
Now after reading this, one who already knows how to take control of the five elements, can say, 'Man, it's easy! I will eat Sweet food, stay in home, wear Yellow, be Earthly and thus achieve Sattva.' But this may only worsen the situation. Our mind being a product of nature's effect is also affected by time. There's always a left swing towards Past and a right swing towards Future in our pendulum mind. Every decision we make, every step we take is a resultant of past experience and future predictions whether we want it or not. That's why to achieve Sattva is to learn to live in the Present! It is the first step towards spirituality. But unless you know how far and dark the past can drag you and have the wisdom of how orchestrated the future can be, how can you live without worrying about the two? How can you gauge that the pin of the pendulum is in proper place of balance unless you know how far it can go with the swings on both sides? That’s why to be proper Earth you have to go through phases of every elements. Without experience and wisdom any mechanical trial will be meaningless and harmful.
In the state of ultimate balance or 'Suddha Sattva' nature can't titillate the mind pendulum by any thoughts, so while the soul is not busy attending the mind it starts to observe its own self. This phenomenon is known as ‘seeing the divine light’ or ‘Swarup darshan’. A very few people can achieve it.
The phenomenon of Balance is present in the form of dynamic interaction between Yin and Yang pairs everywhere and in every aspect of this happening world. In our mind it produces emotions, in our body it creates actions, in the universe it provides rotations. We have given this interaction a simple name, Love. It is the very basis of existence and the very meaning of everything there is interim in this endless cycle of Creation and Destruction. About creation, I remain thankful to my friend Ishtiak Ahmed for supporting me with discussions at length and being the driving force for this article.
